Welcome to Alternative Black Perspectives. As a US Army veteran who spent 13 months in South Korea and over ten years as an artist in black community-based organizations, which were extensions of Free Southern Theater and BLKARTSOUTH (i.e., Black Arts Movement in the South), in pre-Katrina New Orleans, my views on black culture and politics tend to differ from those that reflect neoliberal ideology. We are witnessing a pivotal moment in history. The word radical is a buzzword in many intellectual circles today. But from the standpoint of achieving fundamental social change, much of what passes for radicalism actually replicates or perpetuates the logic and assumptions of the status quo. This venue, then, is an offering of alternative black perspectives.
